Why Cruise The Waters Of North America?

Some of the best cruise deals you can find originate from the port cities of North America. The harbours of Miami and Fort Lauderdale send cruise ships to the Caribbean regularly, San Diego services the Mexican Riviera, and the northern cities of San Francisco, New York, Boston and Portland all send cruise ships north to the breathtaking sea and landscapes of Canada and Alaska. This continent offers everything from the comfortably hot to the reasonably cold in both the land and those who inhabit it.

Canada is the northernmost country of North America and one of only three that are on the continent. The climate in Canada is cold for roughly half the year but there is a summer season that lasts approximately three months where beaches are crowded on both coasts. The main appeal of Canada is its frozen plains and choppy seas that contain some of the largest and most virulent sea life in the world. Cruises here are great venues for whale watching and deep sea fishing.

Travel further south into the United States and you'll find more diverse options for cruises. The climate in the US varies from four seasons to tropical year round. On the East Coast the peninsula state of Florida is home to many Caribbean cruise ships and on the West Coast those warm weather cruises come out of San Diego. In either case you can find a ship that will take you to destinations closer to the equator where the weather is warm.

The harbours of New York and Boston are no strangers to cruise ships either. The Cunard Line has sent many trans-Atlantic ocean liners to these cities over the course of the last century. Most of those are no longer running today but you can pick up a local cruise or an extended cruise that includes port cities along the coast and into the islands of the Caribbean to the south. These cities also have international airports with regular flights to and from Europe so they make good ports of origin for cruises.

The upper West Coast of the United States also has its share of scenic cities that send cruise ships up the Canadian Coast and across the Pacific to Hawaii and the Far East. San Francisco, Sacramento, Portland, and Seattle are all thriving metropolitan areas where you can fly in and pick up a cruise ship to a western destination. Travelling between them on a cruise is also worthwhile. Each city has a lot to offer.
